Hello.
My name is Alexander Monelli but most people just call me Al. I'm an Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker and creative video producer with experience producing/directing features (At The Drive-in, Marionette Land, Agnes 50, ROAR: The Story of the Southern Columbia Football Tigers), shorts, commercials, brand stories, political campaigns, and fundraising videos. I typically shoot and edit my films and they have been distributed nationally through PBS, Amazon Prime, iTunes, TIME, Tubi, DirecTV, and more. I've worked with national brands like JLG and PBS Kids, and produced all of the campaign videos for a previous House of Representatives candidate. I share my passion and knowledge of filmmaking and camera gear on YouTube HERE. I enjoy speaking at conferences and film festivals, teaching students, and I have a Bachelor's degree in Film from Long Island University (LIU Post). |
My strongest skill that resonates across disciplines is my comprehension of storytelling and how to structure a narrative in a way that keeps people captivated while endearing them to the characters on screen. Story is all about information and when to reveal it for the biggest impact. Besides creating my own narratives and stories, I enjoy helping other filmmakers and storytellers structure their work with key input about developing a strong opening hook, keeping the audience engaged in the ever-challenging second act, creating characters that feel authentic, and how to end your story that satisfies both the exterior and interior stories of your film. All of my story principles can be applied to narrative films, documentaries, short ads, novels, articles, and more. Stories are everywhere. Being able to tell them effectively can improve your life.
